Global Talent Visa (GTES)

The Global Talent Visa (GTES) is an Australian program aimed at attracting highly skilled individuals who can make significant contributions to Australia’s innovation, technology, and economic sectors. It provides a streamlined pathway to permanent residency for outstanding talent in target industries.

  1. Purpose:

The GTES is designed to bring world-class professionals and leaders in specialized industries to Australia. It addresses skill shortages in high-demand sectors and helps foster innovation, investment, and economic growth.

  2. Target Sectors:

The program focuses on seven high-growth and priority sectors:

    • AgTech (Agricultural Technology)
    • FinTech (Financial Technology)
    • MedTech (Medical Technology)
    • Cyber Security
    • Energy and Mining Technology
    • Space and Advanced Manufacturing
    • Quantum Information, Advanced Digital, Data Science, and ICT
  3. Streams:

There are two main pathways under the Global Talent Visa program:

    • Global Talent Independent (GTI) Program: For individuals with outstanding achievements and international recognition in one of the target sectors. Applicants can apply directly without employer sponsorship.
    • Global Talent Employer Sponsored (GTES) Program: For Australian employers to sponsor highly skilled professionals from overseas who can fill critical roles and contribute to business growth. Employers must be endorsed by the Department of Home Affairs.
  4. Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must demonstrate exceptional skills and achievements in a target sector, meet the high-income threshold requirement, and generally be under 55 years of age unless exceptional circumstances apply.

  5. Application Process:

The process begins with submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Global Talent Taskforce. Eligible candidates may receive an invitation to apply for the visa. Applicants then submit their visa application with evidence of qualifications, achievements, and professional recognition.

  6. Permanent Residency:

Successful applicants are granted permanent residency in Australia. This allows them and their family members to live, work, and study in Australia indefinitely and, in the future, apply for Australian citizenship if eligible.

The Global Talent Visa is a key initiative supporting Australia’s competitiveness in innovation and technology. It provides an opportunity for exceptional global talent to contribute to Australia’s growing economy while gaining a permanent residence pathway.
